5.25" Floppy Disk Drive Motors
TEAC stepper motor (TEAC 5.25" drive)
This unipolar motor is best run from a 12V supply.
It needs to be driven with a sequence of steps.
Each drive coil is approx 150 ohms centre tapped.
Some of these motors have only 1 common (brown) wire.
- Brown (Coil 2 common)
- Brown (Coil 1 common)
- Yellow (Coil 1 phase 1)
- Red (Coil 2 phase 1)
- Blue (Coil 1 phase 2)
- White (Coil 2 phase 2)
The drive sequences shown below are just 1 cycle. Repeat the required
sequence over & over to make the motor turn continuously. Simply reverse
the sequence to make the motor run in the other direction.

This sequence draws the least amount of current. It only energises one coil
at a time and performs full-stepping. Use this one if you don't need as much
torque and want to minimise power consumption.

This sequence draws 1.5 times the amount of current as #1. It alternately energises one/two
coils at a time and performs half-stepping. It has twice the angular resolution but bear in
mind that every 2nd step is weaker. (on the steps where only one coil is energised) Use this
one when you want smaller steps and can tolerate the extra power consumption. Don't count on
any more torque than sequence #1.

This sequence draws twice the amount of current as #1. It energises two coils at a time
and also performs full-stepping. It has higher torque (41%) than sequences #1.
Use this one when you need the maximum torque and power consumption is not important.
